is going back to school in the phil my best bet for getting on with my life?
ive been living and working here in the states since 1999 and lately ive been feeling that im not getting ahead and feel worried for my future. ive been thinking of going back to the phil to study and although nursing sounds to be the most promising, what set backs and or complications should i expect? im also thinking it might take me some years to finish this. are there any other courses that are in demand here in the states that i can study back in manila? any objective feedbacks are welcome. thanks!

Education has always been a good choice of investment, and learning should be a lifetime commitment. Getting a good education may be tricky though. If you are going to study in the Philippines, choose accredited/prestigious schools. For example: UP, Ateneo or UST. Also depends on the course/vocation you choose so do more research on this. The tuition may be higher but they are far cheaper than any schools in USA. And yes...going back to school also means investing time and can be daunting. You got to go back to having the discipline of studying, researching, taking notes, memorizing, preparing for examinations, etc. You may feel awkward at first with most of your classmates many years younger than you. But I dont think this will be problem at all, I have classmates in college that were older than our professors. Other courses in demand in the states I think are: physical therapists, occupational therapists, accountants, teachers, etc.

have you ever heard of somebody regretting going back to school?

This is the first time I heard someone complaining that her or his life is getting no where in the States. Since you told us here your life is not getting ahead or feeling worried for the future. Everybody is feeling worried now a days because of the recession period we are experiencing at the moment globally speaking. You are contemplating on embarking in a study period in the Philippines. Why you didn't graduated yet you work & live in the States? Although nursing course is globally in demand esp. medical profession because I too believe every where in the world people are getting sick, living much longer than they should be and obviously required nursing care. That is were doctors and nurses are in demand world wide. It required most of your time, well if you have time and of course money to go with it then try nursing. It is not what you want or need it is what the world dictates that is why you are embarking to take up nursing. Well in the end I think you will not be happy. Most people I know of tried the profession they think they will be happy. Being paid for what they love to do and do it for the sake of doing it. If you love people then be a sales person or sales representative. If you love to write then be a journalist or something else. Why end up to be a nurse some day? There are other courses in demand. Culinary arts is one of them, end up to be a chef. Why not? Chef are obviously in demand anywhere. Because people eat all the time, and like to taste everything that is good and tasty. Well if I were you I rather end up to be a chef. But as I said I am not like you. We are all different from one another. Different stroke for different folks. It is all up to you whatever you want as long as you feel you will be happy being paid doing it.

Do I have a chance to pass UPCAT
Do I have a chance to pass UPCAT?
I chose UP Diliman as my 1st choice and UP Manila as my 2nd choice. I chose Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering as my 1st choice in UPD and Food Technology as my 2nd choice. In UPM, my first choice is Occupational Therapy and my 2nd choice is Nursing. Anyway, which of those courses are easy to get through? I answered 275 items out of 295 in UPCAT. Science part is hard, half of my answers there are guesses. I have an average grade of 93.333333 from 1st year to 3rd year. Can I pass? I'm anxiously waiting for the UPCAT results. TT_TT

I'm gonna say that probably food technology would be easier to get into compared to Molecular Biology& Genetic Engineering. as for UPM, I'm not sure. Well. Answering 275 questions out of 295 doesn't really give any assurance that you will pass, especially since you said that half of your science answers are guesses. Your average seems to be pretty high. But you should keep praying that you'd pass. :)

Is it legal to revoke one's license when you did a crime 3 years ago when you were just a student
Is it legal to revoke one's license when you did a crime 3 years ago when you were just a student?
Good Day! I would like to ask for your legal advise. 3years ago, I won an essay writing contest while I was a 3rd year student (1st sem) at a university here in Manila. I copied most of the 6page essays from an internet source which I can't remember what site anymore. I didn't expect to win in the first place, but my motive of course was to use the money to pay for my tuition. Now,the university called me up and made me talk to the assistant dean of the college of nursing telling me that I made a crime. They found out the plagiarized work because the winning essays from that year up to the present will be published. Then they let me talk to the organizer of the would be published book telling me that my piece will not be included anymore. I said sorry to him because I was close to him when I was still a student. I also asked if the author of that article I copied from knows about this, he said of course no, because he is an american professor. They pass the case to the office of student affairs. The ad hoc committee told me my nursing license might be revoked because of my crime. My question is, is it possible that my license will be revoked where in fact I did that essay when I was still a student? What shall I do? Please help. Thanks. First, I did this when I was a student and that this contest has nothing to do with my degree course. I got my license through a national nursing licensure exam which does not ask if you committed a crime or not. Second, I am not yet judged guilty of plagiarism because the university said they will call me for the next hearing this august. third, my friend called me up yesterday telling me that if I will pay back the 20,000 pesos and give back the certificate, the university will drop the case against me because her brother-in-law is the lawyer of FEU who handles my case. I am now wondering where will the money go and how will they revoke my license when in the first place, that essay writing contest has nothing to do with me getting my degree done? Please help. Can someone refer me to a lawyer? Thanks guys! God Bless.

Well, I cannot see how they can revoke your license if the contest had nothing to do with your degree. Now, if the contest was a course to be applied to your degree, then yes, they can revoke it because you technically would not have earned the degree. One thing though, is the university in charge of licenses? If not, then they cannot revoke it regardless, but they can recommend to the Nursing Board that you have your license suspended or whatever
2 :
It can be revoked easily if there was something on your application asking if you have ever committed a crime. I am guessing you said no, because you got the license, but the answer was really yes because of that fraud you did with the essay. Falsifying information on the application will get it revoked no matter how long ago the crime was. At this point, there is nothing you can do except look for another job that doesn't require a valid license.

Maybe it affected your qualifications, maybe not. I can't say about Manila for sure, but do your qualifications include research into your background and your professional ethics? they probably do, and that could be yoru downfall, your achilles heel as it were.

Just questions about what college courses are best to take in the University of the Philippines
Just questions about what college courses are best to take in the University of the Philippines?
Hi.:) I'm an incoming senior student and I'm going to take the UPCAT to get into UP on August. But while i'm filling up the application form, i found out I don't really know what campus I want to get into and even what course I really want. I'm not even sure if I'll pass the exam, I'm just going to start reviewing for it now. But I still hope and pray...I'm running for valedictorian but I'm still nervous and somewhat scared if I can make it, there are lot of people who expects so I'm really pressured and scared I might bring them down.. :( I'm not GOOD in Math, I'm best in History, English and Biology, good in Computer, Music and Arts. My family wants me to be a doctor, and I think I like to be a doctor too. My dream when i was a kid was to be a scientist (with all those chemicals and stuffs) but i'm not so good in Chemistry and Physics sadly so I forget about it. Then, recently, I really want to be an archaeologist. But I know, my family won't let me, the cost of studying it and on finding jobs and getting a good pay on being an archaeologist is really not worth the study. :( Then, I also thought of becoming an artist. But I will not have a stable life there..so i guess i also have to forget about it. I searched the net and found out that the highest paying jobs in the world are the related medical jobs. And I think that's where I should focus since my dream is to be RICH. :p my mom wants me to go to UP Manila since that's where medical courses are offered and that's where my eldest sister studied BS Nursing but personally, I want to go to UP Diliman. I have to decide what I'll take among these 4 courses in UPM: BS Pharmacy BS Biology BS Nursing D Dental Medicine but i also heard about: Covered by a Return Service Agreement so i want to know what it is all about. >and also what courses are best to take in UP Diliman. these questions are just about my indecisiveness and uncertainties. but please help me... ASAP if possible. THANK YOUUUUU so much!!! :D GOD BLESS!

What a coincidence! I'm also taking the UPCAT this August, I'm also not that great in math, I'm also running for valedictorian, and I also dreamed of being a scientist when I was a kid. I also had a bit of difficulty in choosing my course, but now I know what to take. ...Oh yeah, for your questions. First of all, while I know college stuff more or less as much as you do, I do know enough that it doesn't really matter what the best courses are in UPD -- or the whole UP System, for that matter. It's the state university! All the courses are best! I just asked my dad what the Return Service Agreement is, and the best he could tell me was that after you earn your degree, you have to work in the Philippines for around two years before you can go abroad, i.e. you "return" the education they gave you through your "services." As for what course to take, that's your choice to make, mate. Sometimes it's about your personal interests and sometimes it's about how much money you'll make out of that degree, but you have to figure out a way to balance both. I do believe that if you're really good at what you do and work hard, you can make all the money you want. Hope to see you on UPCAT-taking day! (Just look for a girl with unruly hair and red glasses, haha.) :-)
