Up is a good school for literature and law, not nursing or business. if you want to study nursing, UST is the best school in the phil for that. Bm, Ateneo de manila is fine. gud luck.
2 :
Omg, you must be really smart, going to UP!!! You must be one of those insanely smarty pants people!!! Anyways...why taking 2 career? Umm...well here's what my mom said, UP is the best!!! All courses are there she said, you can take both as much as you want there!!! But yes she also said that UP diliman is business while UP manila is nursing so...lagare ka daw!!! \/(^.^)\/
3 :
UP has recall anywhere you go in the world. That's just the way it is. Period. So if you plan on continuing your studies in other countries, UP is the best bet. Diliman's business program is excellent. Manila has the (quite competitive) nursing program so maybe you should just try getting Org Com courses in place of your business courses. Ateneo & DLSU are also good schools. You can't go wrong with them, too. UST is a close fourth. Great in Nursing, Architecture & Fine Arts. Try UST if you want a double-degree. DLSU & Ateneo do not offer nursing. .
4 :
No second courser for Nursing. you'll need full time.
5 :
You have to pass the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) before you get admitted to this university. The UPCAT application form will make you list your campus according to your priority. Below is an example: 1. UP Diliman 2. UP in the Visayas (Iloilo Campus) 3. UP Manila Then it will also make you list your preferred courses (i.e.) 1. UP Diliman i. Journalism ii. Tourism 2. UP in the Visayas i. Psychology ii. Sociology ... and so on. Based on your test scores and high school qualifications, UP will then rank you and the campus and course that they will give you a slot in will depend on your score. Diliman, being its flagship campus, has the highest requirements. Friends who got an average of 2.0 - 2.50 were not admitted to Diliman and it was whispered among ourselves at Kalayaan Residence Hall (the dorm exclusively for freshmen) that the passing score in Diliman is at least 1.75 to as high as 1.0. From the above, you can surmise that you cannot have both courses. You really have to choose. If you want to have two degrees, then do not do it simultaneously. Earn a degree in Nursing (or Business Administration) first then study the next course after you have earned the first one. A word of caution. UP has a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 18 units per semester (graduating students are allowed to take at the most 24 units). 15 - 18 units may seem too few but believe me, it is anything but easy as despite the 5 - 6 courses in a sem, the workload (papers, quizzes, exams, reports etc) may be very daunting. Thus, earning two degrees at the same time may be too much, even for perennial achievers like you.

im from pasay and i dont think there are free hotspots but good luck with that, you can always go in coffee shops, but you have to pay for the internet access.
2 :
no free internet here in the libraries... unless you are a student of that particular school, and you are not allowed to check your e-mails. your friend has to go in an internet cafe to use a computer... there are lots of those here in manila. it usually cost around Php30-40 per hour.

I will try and give you an answer that you can use. I got online and looked up University of the Philippines. It came up with about 8-10 different Unviersities to get classes online. That was University Guides.com and the first one they gave was; An Intercontinental University. They had several options open. Like business, legal, medical; etc. I believe if you wanted to specifiy YOU woould need to contact them; they also had the setup questions with your present address; I used my zip code to get something from them. In your list; you did not indicate if this would be your Freshman courses or electives....? I only know of Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts for pre-Med courses. Other than that; I would suggest Molecular Biology and Biotechnology classes. Those 2 alone, I feel would have alot of intertwining informations. If you attend B of U, you could obtain scholarships year around for academics, alone. And, you could obtain endorsements for further studies and / or research, when you graduate; 4 years late. In the Library, there is a reference book: Scholarships; and there are corporations, foundations, etc peoples that give $ away, for those IN the Medical Fields. San Diego State University and Scripps Institute both in San Diego, CA have excellent pre-Medical classes. Be and stay Classy; not sway over to styles, they fade. Classy was last a lifetime. Aim very high and make excellent grades; for then you will have much better opportunities for your diliigence. God's best Blessings be yours; I Pray GOD is permitted to attend college with you. Amen?

What school and course shall I enter? Nursing or accounting
What school and course shall I enter? Nursing or accounting?
Well, this courses are very apart from each other. I have two choices: Accounting in a top university and a very good business school (De La Salle University-Manila in the Philippines) and Nursing in a very good university as well which specializes in that course (University of Santo Tomas). I'm still undecided until now. I need a decision asap. Can someone give me a background on these 2 courses? Also, please help me decide. Give the pros and cons or anything you know about those courses. I also want to work abroad. I can't decide what I like more. Please help me. Thanks!

If working abroad is what you seek then go into nursing. Accounting laws are so different in different countries, that unless you are sent to be the expert of the Philippines rules on bookkeeping, you won't be of much use abroad. Both majors require you to continue your education for life. So be prepared to constantly go to school to be updated on new laws or technology.
2 :
What kind of person are you? Are you a people person who is caring and giving? Can you work long, stressful hours in life or death situations? Then nursing is right for you. Or are you an introvert who loves to do detailed work (rather than overall planning). Do you get a thrill when numbers add up and make sense? Then accounting is right for you.
3 :
We have a shortage of nurses, and there are plenty of accountants. Nursing is very long, hard work, but you will get paid loads for it.
4 :
before anything else, you have to decide what you see yourself doing for the rest of your life: being a nurse or being an accountant? you may have a liking in both courses, but one will always be more appealing to you than the other. now that's the decision you need to make if you want to be happy on the inside. but if your primary goal is to go abroad, then nursing is the way to go. but you have to take into consideration the effect of the mass-cheating that they pulled off in last year's nursing exams... puts our credibility in jeopardy, big time. also, accounting is different in every country, so studying accounting here doesn't necessarily mean you can do accounting somewhere else. both are good schools. seems like you are smart enough as it to pass on both courses in those schools -- i'm sure you'll figure it out. just a word of advise: this is YOUR decision for YOUR life. do not make your HS friends' choices of school be a factor that will affect ur decision.
5 :
It is quite 2 different jobs. You should think first what is fitting your character. Would you like to make money or you rather to help people. Answer honestly to yourself, and it will help you to decide.

are there nursing jobs available for me here in the philippines?
I am a new RN. I just passed the june 2008 board exam. Currently, I am waiting for the release of my license. I have been to different hospitals here in Metro Manila unfortunately there were no vacancies. Where could I gain the experience needed to be able to have a work abroad?

good news: work as a volunteer nurse. experience from these count bad news: you'll have to pay the hospital for that or for free. learning is very limited because they only let you do vital signs and some routine work: kinda like nursing aides or worse. suggestion: submit as many application papers to as many hospitals as possible. preferably somewhere you can train or learn and wait for the vacancies. ask the HR if they could just keep your application papers so that if ever vacancies became available, you're already on the list. if you could work in a rural tertiary hospital, then that would be great. if you can't find any, attend seminars and special training (like IV training) to gain an edge. hospitals in the US (and probably abroad) don't pay much attention to whatever hospital you worked in in the philippines. they, however, pay attention to the experience and training you had. in fact, most hospitals don't even require you to submit your resume and application letter. they have their own application form to be filled out.
2 :
Working as a volunteer nurse is a good idea. Dec 2007 licenses are not yet released so expect the licenses of June 2008 passers to be released very very soon.

Actually no...but with 2 caveats. If you graduated from the same school and they have a hospital..eg FEU..as a top graduate they may offer you a position...maybe. Second..St. Lukes, Captital, Medical City, Makati Med..will give you a one year internship, without pay, and with a donation on your part... It's a hard road sorry to say. Better go to a provincial hospital and work for a year...again for free. After that go to Saudi for 2 yrs...
4 :
Out of ten hospitals there is one. Just try,if you are lucky then you will get a job.
5 :
We have a glut of newly registered b=nurses from our Colleges here that if you want to work in a hospital , instead of you being paid , you have to pay the hospital to take you in . Reason ? The hospitals know that nurses who get employment in Philippine Hospitals just want to gain experience , for maybe two years and then they will go abroad to work there for the US Dollars and use the experience they got from the Philippine Hospital to gain foreign employment . So to get employed by a hospital here , either the school you graduated from is the owner of the hospital or your family relations know somebody from the Stockholders of the hospital or you know someone high up in the government or you are Top of the Board Passers. If not , then apply for a flight attendant work in Emirates , Qatar or Cathay Pacific airlines.
6 :
SAD TO SAY there are no private or government hospitals that is hiring newly registered nurses at the moment in the Philippines. In approximate number there are about 100,000 newly registered nurses in the Philippines. And this year alone there are approximate 40,000 graduates that will add to that number. Year in and year out, there are more and more newly graduate nurses in the Philippines which the government are now using the policy of pay for certificate meaning every nurses who is newly registered nurse have to pay the hospital for a fee of Php 10,000 for 11 months for them to be awarded a certificate which they couldn't use either locally or abroad. Because it is completely useless. NOW THE GOVERNMENT is investigating this hospitals that use and abuse these newly registered nurses to be able to charge them with civil and criminal charges. The only problem is that NO NURSE has ever come out and complain about the abuse. SO the only remedy you got is none other than to apply to some jobs which is out of your league or out of your profession like call center or sales staff in a company. If you will wait for this to be straighten out or make it proper you might end up dead in no time. BUT the DOH or the Department of Health secretary is now planning to hire these new registered nurses and fill them in the provinces and providing them a starting salary of 8,000 pesos and a bonus coming from the hospitals they will working on with another 2,000 incentives and allowances. Totalling 10,000 pesos better than nothing I suppose. But these places could be in Mindanao and Visayas area not in Metro Manila.

My sister plans to work in New Zealand as a nurse. The office that is helping process her papers in Manila?
asked her for a fee of around 400 NZ dollars as her registration to the Nursing Council of NZ. I am afraid that my sis is being gypped by this office. Please advise me if this is the normal practice.

If she is applying through an agency the best way to know is to check if it is accredited by the POEA.You can also read the guides or tips about illegal recruitment from their website.Normally, a legitimate hiring agency doesn't require large amount of money to process an applicant. You can also inquire directly to the employer from NZ if it is indeed a requirement. http://www.poea.gov.ph/air/air.htm
2 :
There is a fee of $485NZD that has to be submitted with the application to the Nursing Council of New Zealand. I'm from the US and I had to pay that. If she is being asked to pay money to an office helping her with paperwork, that is a different issue.

What is the cost for Nursing Schools in the Philippines
What is the cost for Nursing Schools in the Philippines?
I will going back to the Philippines to study for nursing. I just wanted to know how much the cost will be for the whole 4 years of studying over there ( just tuition fees and book fees) . It will either be in Manila or in Baguio. A rough estimate would be fine. Thanks. Thanks for the answers..but I will need the cost for the 4 years of studying in the Philippines.

I suspect it is much less than studying in the US. However, be aware, licensure there is not acceptable here... you would still have to sit for the nursing boards here to get a nursing license here, and to do that you have to attend a school in the US. So, if you are planning on going there just to get a nursing license, be aware, the only place it will do you any good is in the Phillipines, not anywhere else.
2 :
Depends on what school you'll be going to. Ateneo for example has just opened up med school. In San Beda college, where my cousin studies, It's 50k-70k.
3 :
COMPARE WITH NURSING SCHOOL, DEHRADUN, INDIA, FAMOUS OUR VALLEY.
4 :
as someone living in the Philippines a rough estimate would be around Php 490,000 for a well-known nursing school around the metro manila area that includes book fees. all that would be subjective depending on the exclusivity of the school in more exclusive schools consider adding a 30% increase in the price tag and a 40% decrease to those schools which are not that famous in the nursing field. although there are different professional regulatory exams for nurses abroad esp. in America there are now many review centers which offer courses of American based nursing licensure exams. also, these exams can be taken here in the Philippines via the web
5 :
Between 12000 and 15000 us dollars you did not mention lab fees, transportation ,lunch money and many other miscelleanous fees.
6 :
Assuming you know Tagalog and have relatives near a school that you might attend. Remember the exchange rate is in free fall and a dollar will only buy about 40 pesos these days. Tuition, fees, and books are only a part of the expense. There are uniforms, school T shirts, etc. And you cannot get away with not buying the T shirts--peer pressure. Without lunches you are looking at $1,000 US and up--a lot cheaper than schools here. That is PER SEMESTER!! So you could say $8,000 total at the current exchange rate. And when it is time for the Kaplan review for the nursing board, it is only $300 there. Check on the pass rate for the school before you start. There are a lot of diploma mills in Manila and I suppose in the rest of the country. If the pass rate is under 70% on the first try, then find another school

Hi! Welcome! Please use the shift key for CAPITALISATION purposes. What is your question? I admire your taking a Nursing course. Is there a hospital in CEU just like UST? Are you planning to work in the USA? Currently, there is a shortage of Nurses here until 10 years from now. I believe, the estimate right now is 200,000 nurses because of the constant retirement of the baby boomers. Email me if you want some more information. I can provide you with a name(s) of a hospital(s) where you can apply later on. It will take a hard work on your part because of various requirements. You need to "hone" your English skills because it will be one of the requirements (TOEFL examination. You can handle the rest, e.g. NCLEX and CGFNS if you become a registered nurse in the Philippines.). However, the rewards will be tremendously unimaginable in terms of your earning potential (approximately two days salary here for a month's salary in Manila at an exchange rate of 49 pesos to a US dollar). Congratulations, you are on the right track. It does not matter whether you are a He or a She.

I wish I could answer truthfully. I know there are many from other countries in the medical field where I live and I am sure they had their education from the country they come from. But, I not sure what they actually have, sorry.
3 :
The particular name often just depends on the culture of the specific institution where the degree is awarded. Regardless, moving from country to country in the health profession often requires some type of additional testing or certification.

My thinking on that is you would be better off going here in the U.S. Unless you want to work in the Philippines. My sister-in-law came from there then moved here hoping for that kind of job. Not easy in this country. You have to get re-training once you look for work here. There are differences.
3 :
Few of these programs would carry as much weight in the US as most US programs because secondary school in the Philippines ends at the equivalent of the tenth grade, so that a two-year program in the Philippines would end at the equivalent of the US twelfth grade and a four-year program would be roughly equivalent to a US community college program. I have no information on how well the programs prepare students to pass the NYCLEX exam to become an RN in the US or on how much of the instruction is in English. You would find little, if any, loan or scholarship assistance, especially as you you appear to be a US resident or citizen who would be an international student. However, living costs with your relatives would be very inexpensive as would be tuition in comparison to many US programs. If you are still interested, St. Luke's is the most respected hospital in Manila and you might want to take a look at its program.

It depends on what type of nursing. But they dont pay up front per class. they pay per test. I support a student in ozamiz and i pay about 600 dollars a year for her to go to school. And that does not include food or shelter
2 :
Probably around a thousand dollars on the average. Some may be more expensive but should also be near there. This does not include expenses, books, uniforms and other day to day expenses... There are still a lot of good teachers and they are not adequately paid or rewarded. That is the reason a lot of students are studying nursing so that they can move out of the country and earn more.
3 :
$600-1200 i'd say. But it really depends on what kind of school tey are attending. It doesn't include board and lodging of course. if you want to communicate with the school regarding fees then find the schools name and number. here's one of the schools that has affiliates in the US though.

the best thing to do for CNA classes is actually go talk to the local nursing home/hospital they probably can answer all of your questions, alot of hopsitals/nursing homes actually are in charge of the class.
2 :
There are plenty. Most of them are scams. They claim they can get their graduates jobs in Canada.

UST (BS Nursing) or UP Manila (BS Nursing)
UST (BS Nursing) or UP Manila (BS Nursing)?
I passed the entrance examinations in both schools. I also took the DLSUCET and passed. I excluded DLSU because I've made up my mind I won't study there. Now, I am confused. I've got a few days more to decide where I should spend my college days. I like UST. I really do. The campus is great. It's a Catholic universty which is a good thing because I am a Catholic. I've heard that students there are also great and friendly. I've never been to UP Manila. But I know it is the center of health sciences. I've only seen it in pictures. Others even say that it's quite small. Please help me! I also need reasons and explanations! Thanks! Please help me.

tuition fee - UP Manila cheaper class size - UP manila smaller curriculum - earlier exposure to clinical setting standards and likelihood of failing subjects - UP Manila more likely Campus atmosphere - better in UST, you would not even have time to pay attention to campus amenities in UP Manila. LOL. Hospital - PGH--------> charity, definitely TOXIC UST hosp..------------> private these are just some of the differences... anvil ltd.

There are all kinds of health-related courses available in Manila, from caregiver courses of 6 months duration to full nursing degrees of 4 years. I haven't heard of 'nursing assistant,' but why don't you start looking at school websites for medical support courses? I would suggest you start with St. Luke's College of Nursing, University of the East, United Doctors Medical Center, and University of Santo Tomas.
2 :
yes of course.
3 :
I cant recommend nursing assistant course because most of the hospitals in other countries don't recognize that course. Nursing still the recognized and acceptable abroad.

I grow tired of people on this site bashing those that find a need to put elderly in nursing homes. There are times when elderly can be better cared for in a nursing home than in a family home. They have skilled workers that can address issues that cannot be addressed in private homes. Those that run their mouth and judge without knowing all the circumstances most likely have not had to care for a family member with Alzheimer's. It is a 24/7 job. I know I did it for the last three years of my mothers life and I did it for my aunt and uncle. My aunt and mother I was able to keep in the home, but my uncle would climb out the window and wonder off in the middle of the night. We put an eight foot wood fence and made a patio outside his bedroom thinking he could go outside and be content, but instead he figured out ways to go over the fence and we would all be looking for him and have to get neighbors and police involved. They cannot feed themselves, bathe themselves, go to the the C.R. alone, you are constantly repeating the same thing over and over all day and all night long. Try doing that and family members are trying to hold down full time jobs. I was lucky I had the money to hire 24/7 assistance in the home, but the mental toll was unreal.

ATENEO (BS BIO + free tuition + DOST) or UP Manila (BS Nursing - double quota)
ATENEO (BS BIO + free tuition + DOST) or UP Manila (BS Nursing - double quota)?
Ok, here it goes... I passed the Ateneo de Manila University. My course there is BS Biology which doesn't get much jobs unless you proceed DIRECTLY to medical school. I'm a valedictorian, so it's pretty much full scholarship. Plus I'm one of the Director's List (top 2%) - fee exemptions, annual book allowance worth P5000 and discounts in various university facilities and shops. DOST Scholar (I can't use it in UP since my course is Nursing), that's a partial tuition grant, book allowance, PE allowance and a generous monthly stipend. I also passed in the University of the Philippines - Manila. It's the leading school in the Philippines when it comes to medical courses. My course is double-quota, that means that we're only about 50-70 students, I think. My "future" job is pretty much assured since UP-M has a 100% passing rate in the Nursing Board Exams. I will apply for the STFAP, and if I "pass" the STFAP, I get 70% tuition discount but full priced miscellaneous expenses. HELP ME!

There are two important factors that you should consider: job opportunity and cost of education. And since the two courses are pretty much alike, interest is not of question. So if you're in Ateneo, free tuition is good and the best job opportunity for you after graduation is probably to enter med school. The question is, how successful are the Atenean Biology graduates in entering the best schools in med? I don't know the facts but I've heard some hearsay on the question. Anyways, if the answer turns out bad, you can shift to a 'better' major. UP Manila. You're in one of the most respected and sought-after (with about 10,000+ applying and only 70 being acceped) degree programs in the nation, you have no doubt a secured job right after graduation, but you have a stupendously high tuition for a state university. So here it's more of a matter of money. And the STFAP's a hassle. On the other hand, I don't know if you have to maintain a certain grade to keep your scholarship in Ateneo so if you have guts and believe you can (and I see a quite obvious answer from you judging from your credentials, hahaha) then go for it. Oh yeah, a last thought on jobs. If you do graduate from Nursing, don't you think you'll get the same pay and benefits with students from other schools? Just a thought. Hope you make the right choice. (I can see I'm not helping you get to a definite choice, hahaha! Sorry! It's better to show a balanced view rather than a mindless, biased response anyways)

If I were you, I'd rather choose UP Manila because of several reasons. First, UP Manila is the most prestigious school when it comes to allied medical courses. Maraming gustong makapag-aral diyan kaya of all UP campuses, it has the highest UPG cut-off. Second is the school itself. Kahit saang angulo mo tingnan UP will always be the best, kasi it's the country's premier state university and kilala ito sa abroad. Third, kumpara sa biology, mas mabuti na lang ang nursing kasi both can be a pre-med course. Kaso lang, if your course is biology and hindi ka makaproceed sa medicine, hanggang teacher ka lang, while sa nursing, kahit hindi ka maka medicine, makapag-abroad ka pa rin. that's because nursing is a standalone course. I hope this helps, see you at UP Manila, I'm also an incoming freshman for the next school year. P.S. Just my thought, have you tried applying for Industrial Pharmacy? Kasi kung magaling ka rin naman sa bio at chem, this course would be best for you, in my opinion. You get to manufacture medicines and be employed to leading pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, Unilab, etc. Kung makaabroad ka, mas mataas pa yung sahod mo as an industrial pharmacist kaysa mga nurse.
