During the Philippine Insurrection, Americans were both fighting Filipinos and giving them medical care. Why?
It's confusing. During the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902), why will American nurses be assisting Filipinos (Americans had reserve hospital grounds in Manila) if Americans were the ones fighting them?

Our military's policy has always been that we'll kill you on the battlefield, but we don't believe in massacring defenseless, injured men. After we had taken them out of commission, there was no reason for us to kill them. We aren't barbarians, you know :)

There's someone just posting who is either Filipina or Malyaysian, who won't answer this question. I think my answer is the same as the other--they want to save lives.

Because our goal is to end conflict and suffering not just kill for the sake of killing. These people are some of the Best friends AMERICA as ever had. Many still serve in the US military today. Also medical care helps to win over the populous thru good deeds. Winning hearts & minds is what its called. We do the same in Iraq & Afghanistan today. Do enough good and you get people to side with US over the Taliban or other enemy.
