My parents dont want me to be a doctor or anything else. They just want me to be a nurse. Opinions?
Actually im a 2nd yr college student now. Taking up Nursing. my two other siblings are already nurses. Both didnt have a choice too. Ever since i was a child i was never asked of what my ambition in life is. My parents are simply DICTATORIAL. They told us to take nursing then after, "we can do whatever we want." So i graduated high school, i automatically enrolled for nursing. Now i love the medical world. My dad said before to skip manila. Cause im from a province. And now I said i think i wanna pursue medicine in Manila, Philippines after nursing cause "i thought i can do whatever i want". I belong to a quite rich family. Then my dad said NO. I SAID SKIP MANILA. YOU SHOULD GO ABROAD TO WORK AS A NURSE. So i felt a little discouraged. So my plan is, after graduating, il work abroad, earn enough money, then go back to manila and take up medicine all bymyself. What do you guys think? Am i making the right choice?

>>>So my plan is, after graduating, il work abroad, earn enough money, then go back to manila and take up medicine all by myself. <<< If that's what you want to do, go for it. It's not your parents' life. It's yours. .

Follow your dreams, and do what you want to do. Don't let your parents tell you what you can and can't do. If you want to become a doctor, become a doctor. It's your life, not your parents', and you can do what you want to do with it '

you have to do what you want to do. it's your life. and parents should be supportive of what you aspire for in your life. i say follow your dreams!

Do whatever you want. When your parents or someone else is paying the bill, you have to do what they say to some extent, but if you are paying the bills, YOU get to choose what to do. Life is a great adventure, so do what you feel your calling is.

Yep... do it... Better still... if you're able to... change RIGHT NOW!!!... Coz time is ticking... and don't waste another monent doing something that you're not passionate about. Tell your father that once you become a doctor, you can work as a nurse if you wanted too... (coz the Doctor is also a qualified nurse!!!). My guess is that you're a girl... And it's unfortunate that in many Asian countries, there is still so much sexism... I think your father is a sexist... he probably believes that all girls should be nurses and all boys to be Doctors. That's what my father was like... He want all his sons to be doctors, and his daughters to be nurses... We fought back.. and so my sisters are now not nurses by IT specialists and podiatrists. I ('m a male and) also fought back, and didn't become a doctor.. So.. in the end, it's your life... and as much as you love your father... he's not the ALL KNOWING person in this world... Start right now... go and ask someone about how to change your course to Medicine right now!!! Good luck

Well, it's YOUR life. When they get old, they'll regret it. Not calling your family dumb, but your siblings should've gone after what they wanted, i'd go with your plan, sounds pretty smart

You don' t have to become a nurse. Your parents shouldn't control what you want to be. It's your life. Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss, you'll still be amongst the stars.

You be what you want to be. Either one is a lot of study and lots of long hours and work. Go for what you want.

Do what you want, not what they want. Live your life to your ambitions, not theirs.
