nursing school in UST

nursing school in UST?
I am strongly considering UST. Because I heard UP is really hard to get in to compared to UST. Plus it is nearer to my place (New Manila). So how is nursing school in UST? Hard? Or easy if you study seriously? Oh one more question, which one should I take if I were to work in America? Career Options: * Institutional Or Hospital Nursing * Community Health Nursing * Private Duty Nursing * Industrial Or Occupational Nursing * Military Nursing * Flight Nursing Or Aerospace Nursing * School Nursing * Clinic Nursing * Independent Nursing Practice * Pharmaceutical Representatives * Nursing Education

Nursing in UST is hard! on your first year, you have to pass the quota grade for your batch, most likely 2.0 (around 87% as final average), 2 chemistry subjects are on your first year. Hardest Subjects in the UST College of Nursing: All Chemistry Subjects (organic and inorganic chemistry, almost all are application, not just study of chemical equations. titration and application of biochemistry is very VERY hard) Medical Surgical Nursing (2 subjects, the heart of nursing) Pharmacology (pure memorization of drugs.) Community Health Nursing (memorization of Nursing Law) 2 Literature subjects (seriously, because of the professor who has 3 doctorate degrees. major exams can be as brutal as 200+ items and you have to finish it in just 1 1/2 hour, and you'll have your individual thesis too. this is the worst part of it. never in my life have i experienced this kind of torture. i literally spent over 15 hours infront of the computer without getting up. research. (thesis as a requirement to graduate. good thing its a group project. expect lots of sleep overs to finish this in time. lots of letters to conduct your research and all those things. after completing the thesis, you have to present and defend your thesis.) ofcourse RLE.(your duty days) unexcused absence is equivalent to double make-up duty. one duty day is 8 hours, so you have to make up for 16 hours! for every 5 min late, you have to make up for 30 mins. being late beyond 30 mins is equivalent to unexcused absence. excused absence can only be valid if you were sick proven by a medical certificate, death or wedding of an immediate family member, and participation to special events ackowledged by the college. occasional projects (not subject specific) -they can be a bittersweet experience. you maybe sent for community services and may have out of town projects which is fun but you have to rush for documentation later on. moderately hard subjects: anatomy and physiology fundamentals of nursing biophysics (just memorize the formulas and you'll be ok) laboratory subjects marriage and family (yes it is a subject) psychiatry other subjects seems to be negligible compared to those subjects above, (or at least that's what i think) some subjects are even taken online like rizal course and community service. however, they can all be easy or hard. taking all subjects seriously is always a must. once you fail 9 units, good bye college of nursing! most RLE subjects are already 9+ units! so you really can't afford to fail any subject at all! your greatest obstacle is managing your time. most of the time, you can have as many as 3 major subject quizzes per day! and literally have to read 3-4 chapters per subject! clinical instructors can be either lax or harsh. so know your CI's before your duty. expect lots of sleepless nights. clinical instructor hunting is annoying-- for their signatures, you'll see. completing your surgery cases as a requirement for graduation and for the local boards. the only good part is you don't have summer classes unlike other nursing schools. (april-may) only those who failed minor subjects are going to summer classes. career options in america: institutional/hospital nursing. - highly recommended. you can work double jobs to earn lots of money and lots of experience. and flexible roles. you can be a nursing educator, private duty nurse, etc. at the same time. nurse anesthetist has the highest salary of all types of nurses(without special poition). can be as high as $100+ per hour! community nursing: you have to be an expert first, especially in epidemiology. not much experience, more on paper works and statistics. not much exp. private duty nursing -variable pay. not much experience industrial nursing - variable pay. depends on the company. not much experience. more on first aid and referrals. Military nursing - less pay but has the best benefits among all nursing types. more on first aid. of course there's military training. flight nursing - not much experience. often, you're doing nothing school nursing - the best type of work for the lazy nurses. you'll most likely just sit all day. if there are no classes, you don't have to go to. you have two months vacation with pay too every year! but limited professional growth and experience. clinic nursing - second to best type of work for the lazy nurses. more on paperworks. not much experience. independent nursing practice - its hard to get some work. you have to advertise yourself, pay is variable. not much experience. pharmaceutical representatives. you work more like a pharmacist than a nurse. so not much experience nursing educators - like clinical instructors and teachers. depends on the school where you work.
